Unskilled Mining Jobs WA

You don’t have to have a specific trade when first entering the mining industry. Western Australia is the largest mineral extracting state in Australia and there are plenty of jobs on offer.

That being said there is quite a lot of competition for unskilled mining jobs and you shouldn’t expect the exuberant salaries that often get shared about the weekend barbeque. The money is in the industry, but you have to work your way up the ladder.

What Type Of Unskilled Mining Jobs Are Available In WA?

If you don’t have any qualifications or experience than don’t expect to waltz into a cushy, well paying job. Your best bet is to get into an entry level position and work hard for a promotion.

  • Cleaning
Not the cleanest job in the world, but then again you want to work in mining anyway! With the amount of workers in these mining communities there needs to be someone to clean up after them all and this is why there is usually a high demand for cleaners in mining communities.
  • Admin
Workers need to get paid, so there is the opportunity for payroll work if you have any experience with that. Otherwise any type of clerical work is a great place to start off.
  • Cooking
You don’t have to be a chef to work in food preparation for the miners. Mining work makes for hungry people so there are usually quite a few opportunities for cooking and food preparation jobs in WA mining communities.
  • Labourer
Finding an unskilled labouring job is the best way to get the start to a career that has any chance of progression. If you are physically fit and healthy that being a trade’s assistant is a great first job in the mines.

Apprenticeships & Traineeships

If you would like to get a position that has a lot more promise towards promotion then a mining apprenticeship or traineeship is a great idea. It guarantees you a couple of years employment, with qualifications at the end that will allow you to progress up the ladder or into a new, higher paid job.
